Earnings Season is upon us starting this week. Over the next 4 weeks, most of the companies we own will be releasing their quarterly earnings reports and holding their earnings calls. These reports are our company’s periodic report cards that tell us how they are doing and give us an indication from the management how they expect to perform going forward. For me, these are easily the most important quarterly events to assess the fundamental health of each of our companies. My humble opinion is that if you can’t take 30 minutes to read the report and possibly even 1 hour to listen to the call, I would strongly question whether you should be picking or investing in individual stocks. It is that important to at least give yourself the most basic understanding of what the company does and how well they are performing. That said, I encourage everyone to pick one company (hopefully your largest holding), read the earnings release this quarter, and then call in and listen to the 60 minute earnings call held by the CEO and CFO. It will be well worth your time and you will absolutely not regret doing so. I guarantee you will learn a lot and be a much more educated and informed investor…one of probably less than 1% of stock investors.
Following are the quarterly release dates (or estimates) on the companies I will be following and try to be on every call (or listen in at a later date when I have multiple calls on the same day and time, which does happen every quarter). Yes, you can listen to the recording of the call or even read the call transcript, but reading the transcript is not quite the same as hearing the enthusiasm or disappointment or emotion in the voices of the leaders of those companies.
