Alteryx: A Long-Term Investment

Yesterday was a rough day in the market, punctuated by a 5% correction in the overall portfolio. AYX corrected more than 10% yesterday, which I took as an opportunity to add a little more to the position. I feel the tide has started to turn in the overall market and while it will not be what they call a V-shaped recovery, I feel that, short of another surge in the pandemic, that we’ve logged the bottom of the stock market decline (more than 37% top to bottom correction) and I’m slowly building my stock portfolio back to 100% invested. As of today I’m at about 12% cash. I am 51 and like to think I have another 25 great years of investing and life in me. Days like yesterday are going to happen. There is still a lot of volatility and I want to be very careful what companies I own, as the acute pain will linger and the symptoms will present themselves for another 6-12 months at least, but I’m trying to keep the portfolio healthy, get it into the best shape possible and prepare it to slingshot ahead as we pull out of the crisis and head into the summer and restart the economy in an election year. The stock market always predicts and precedes the economy. It is somewhat satisfying that our political parties have finally come together and shown they are prepared to pull out all stops to prop up, support and RE-ignite businesses and the economy. It will not be easy and the effects will be seen for a long time. Many, many companies will simply not survive. But similar to a massive forest fire that burns out the dry and decayed undergrowth and leaves behind the strong, healthy, redwood trees, this too will make room for tremendous growth of new seedlings and I believe will usher in a new and exciting digital era that has been brewing and preparing for the past decade. We have reached an inflection point in the graph that is growing exponentially and the trajectory of this transition is turning vertical as we reach terminal velocity. If we’ve chose the right companies, the best of the best, to invest in, the ride will be exhilarating, intense and rewarding. I hope some of you come along for the ride.
Stay healthy, get in the best shape of your life and be prepared to slingshot ahead!!
I will leave you with two of my favorite quotes to ponder:
“We cannot live better than in seeking to become better”. -Socrates
Adversity introduces a man to himself. -Albert Einstein
How will you look back on this period in time in your life… as an opportunity or a roadblock?
